Shawn Mendes has done it again — and by “done it,” we mean totally ruin us emotionally. His new video for his single “Mercy” is finally here, and it pretty much sums up the experience of heartbreak with one frighteningly accurate analogy. The video cuts back and forth between Shawn singing in a room filled with instruments and images of Shawn, um, drowning inside a locked car. Yeah, it’s that dark.
As we see Shawn struggling inside the car, we hear his powerful lyrics that will resonate with anyone who has ever gone through an emotional breakup. “Please have mercy on me / Take it easy on my heart / Even though you don’t mean to hurt me / You keep tearing me apart.”
