J Cole – False Prophets

J. Cole ruffled some feathers ahead of his forthcoming album 4 Yours Eyez Only when a behind-the-scenes documentary about the project featured a snippet of a new track called “False Prophets (Be Like This)” which appeared to be directed at Kanye West and his recent hospitalization with lines about an egotastic, “fake” rapper.

Now the Roc Nation rapper has shared a music video for the new track, and it seems like he may be taking shots at Wale as well. The second verse in “False Prophets” refers to a “bitter” rapper who is concerned too much about fame and acclaim to enjoy his own blessings. Despite making President Obama’s summer playlist, Wale went on a Twitter rant railing against critics of his inclusion on the list. See the lyrics in question below:

“I got a homie, he a rapper and he wanna win bad.

He want the fame, the acclaim, the respect that’s been had/ By all the legends, so every time I see him, he stressin’.

Talkin’ ’bout, niggas don’t fuck with him, the shit is depressin’/
And I know he so bitter he can’t see his own blessings.

Goddamn, nigga, you too blind to see you got fans, nigga/
And a platform to make a classic rap song/
To change a nigga’s life, but you too anxious livin’ life.”
