TNH: What inspired you to start music?
NS: For me, music was just always there. It’s been a part of my soul I suppose ever since I can remember. Music, singing, and performing was also so soothing for me as a kid who was not raised in always peaceful home. It was my escape from the noise of a negative environment. It brought joy and fulfillment. Because I was decent at it, it also brought me confidence that inspired me to dream. It provided a gleam of hope that I would one day be able to use the gift of music to excel past the circumstances I was born into. And that idea came from idolizing and loving Elvis Presley and his rage to riches, all American story.
TNH: If you weren’t doing music what other career do you see yourself doing?
NS: Fashion! Haha. I love the fashion world and all the creative and culturally altering coolness it brings. It’s my fave pastime.
TNH: What do fans of yours have to look forward to in the near future, are there any surprises to come?
NS: I do hope that anyone who is following my music journey looks forward to all the singles that will make up this first album, Veni Vidi Vici. It’s going to be one hell of a diverse journey. It’s my way of sharing my life journey this far through music. There will be dancing, upbeat jams, old school beats, heartache, triumph, and humor. Beyond the songs themselves, I plan on using this album as a launchpad in hopes to inspire people who feel any self-doubt or self-imposed limitations to follow their dreams and believe. It’s my motto to remind the world that just because you don’t come from something, doesn’t mean you can’t be someone.
TNH: When you’re working, what inspires you or what do you draw inspiration from?
NS: Life! What we experience in this crazy world is what inspires me. The emotions that come from situations and the feelings they bring are what drive my writing. And good music makes you feel something.
TNH: Is there any advice you would like to give your younger self for coming into the music industry or something to help the songwriting/producing process?
NS: Something I’ve learned through my own experiences is to always remember who you are and what inspires you as an artist to keep dreaming and growing. If you’re not growing, you’re dying. So don’t get too caught up in the lights. Remember why you wanted to do music, to begin with, and build your growth around it. I also advise to take interest in the various other aspects of the industry. Be knowledgeable on the biz end and have tremendous respect for the technical aspects aka, the engineering, and producing that allows us to capture and share music with the world. And don’t let anyone tell you you can’t. This is your life. You only get one. Live it!
TNH: What’s the meaning of your track “Need Another Man”?
NS: (lol) I was signed to my old label at the time I wrote this song. I was on my way to the studio and had just hung up with my mom who was less than thrilled to meet yet another guy I was dating. She said to me, “my god Natalie. You need another man, like you need another hole in your head.” Haha. I got in the car and as I drive thru the more backcountry of Georgia I was watching the folks in their front porch swinging and tapping their feet and I saw the sweat from their tea dripping and all of a sudden I could hear the little piano riff idea and the bass beat. I was so excited to share that with my producer when I arrived and we built the song then and there. As an old fashion raised girl, I had to learn on my own that you don’t need a man to feel good, empowered, or be successful. You got this in your own… but boy oh boy… maybe ya just need one … someone special.
TNH: Where did you shoot the video for this song?
NS: Need Another Man’s video was shot at Club Social on location in Playa Del Carmen Mexico.
TNH: What are your plans for the rest of the year?
NS: I’m excited to share the remaining journey of recording the rest of the album and taking my fans on the journey with me. More music, more videos and I’m excited to continue my streaming shows of both my lifestyle show, Nat Around Town, and the Girl Power series we launched this summer. And as an added bonus to any of my fans with kiddos, I’ll be starting my children’s book, The Adventures of Mr. Jinx! Stay tuned!
TNH: Are you looking to stay independent?
NS: For now, yes. I was formerly a signed artist and I had a great experience, but I’m loving the creative freedom of being on my own. I can do any style of song that moves me verses being put into a box. I’m not the kinda girl to box up and put on a pretty shelf. I like to mix it up and have no fear to color outside the lines.
