A completely singular talent with a sound completely in its own lane, London born artist Daisy Maybe spent 2018 carving her own unique niche in the UK soul landscape. Releasing tracks such as ‘Riverbed’ with Jeshi, ‘Iris’, and ‘The Answer’ featuring grime iconoclast Skepta, Daisy has fostered a wave of attention for her own subversions on the contemporary R&B landscape. Today, Daisy Maybe announces her debut project, ‘Psychosexual’; an 8-track collection of midnight-hued atmospherics that metamorphose popular music convention, due for release on March 8th 2019. To celebrate the announcement of the project, Daisy has unveiled two more of the EP’s tracks – ‘Cinnamon’ and ‘Stop’.
Showcasing two polarizing facets of Daisy’s wide-reaching talents, ‘Cinnamon’ and ‘Stop’ occupy two extremely different sonic spaces. An urgent, pulsing work of twisted pop, ‘Cinnamon’ marks Daisy’s most accessible work to date, with Daisy musing on surrendering herself to the highs of love. Complete with a groove-laden bass line and psychedelic melodies, the track leans on a vintage sound through an electronically inflected scope, providing a creeping, seductive single that perfectly encapsulates Daisy’s more mainstream focused sonic templates. ‘Stop’ on the other hand finds Daisy at her most experimental, adopting a slacker flow, weaving in and out of an electronically imbued instrumental reminiscent of James Blake’s early work. ‘Stop’ fully explores Daisy’s penchant for sound-scaping, embodying a subtle blend of hypnotic loops, distorted guitars and pitch-shifted harmonies.
Largely produced by London based producer Kiran Kai and featuring contributions from the likes of Skepta and Jeshi, Daisy Maybe’s ‘Psychosexual’ is the coming together of some of the capital’s most diverse musical minds. A technicolour glimpse into the mind of one of London’s most omnipresent cultural figures, the project chronicles Daisy’s experiences through the medium of intricate, otherworldly soul.
